People Get Ready

I know that violent movies are bad. The Bible says that God hates violence. However, I will admit that they are a vice of mine. One movie that has me thinking lately is Terminator. In the sequel Linda Hamilton is playing a woman plagued by the knowledge that nuclear war is coming and a race of intelligent machines will try to take over the earth. In one dream sequence she is looking at a playground and she is pained by the fact that she knows the end is coming. She is screaming at people, desperately trying to get their attention but none hear her. She wants to warn everyone. The nukes hit, and she sees the playground destroyed. I take two things away from this scene. First, Christians are in the same boat. We know what will happen when the end comes. We are pained by the knowledge that many have taken the broad, wide path to destruction. We scream out our warnings, but often feel like no one can hear us. Secondly, we should all go through life like people with an extraordinary knowledge. We know how to save all those people living their lives in ignorance. Perhaps we need to have a greater sense of urgency. It is the beauty of not knowing when the end will come... you see that way we have to work continually, and not wait till the last minute. As a side note, December 20th on ABC there will be a Barbara Walter's special on Heaven. According to the website, "Walters will speak with the Dalai Lama, failed suicide bombers in Israel, an Evangelical leader, atheists, Muslim scholars, Jewish rabbis, as well as with Maria Shriver, Mitch Albom and Rabbi Jackie Mason." I think it will be interesting to get the media's take on heaven and how to get there. I will post my reactions and hope to generate some discussion on the topic.
